Display glass shipments in 2021 increase by 13% compared to record highs

  DSCC data shows that in 2021, driven by the strong market demand for LCD TV panels, display glass shipments will hit a new high. In 2021, the shipment volume of display glass will be about 687Mm2, an increase of 13% from the historical high.

  From the perspective of supply, in Q4'21, Corning's Beijing plant has solved the power supply problem, and its glass furnaces in Taiwan and South Korea have also been properly repaired. be rapidly expanded. The ramp-up and ramp-up of Corning's G10.5 plant in China has also resulted in a rapid expansion of capacity.

From the perspective of shipment area, the proportion of mainland China will increase from 40% in Q1'18 to 64% in Q1'22. South Korea’s share will drop from 27% in 2018 to 12% in Q1’22.

  From the perspective of technology type, although Corning and AGC began to increase their investment in Oxide TFT glass substrates in 2019, and Corning, AGC and NEG all continued to work on glass substrates for LTPS, but TFT glass for a-Si shipped The proportion is still above 90%. However, although the proportion of a-Si glass will gradually decrease, the rate of decline is not sharp with the promotion of the new G10.5 production line.

  DSCC said that in Q4'21, panel makers hope to alleviate the continued decline in LCD panel prices by reducing the production of G8.5 and G8.6 factories. In 2018, more than half of the glass was used in the G8.5 line. However, with the increase of G8.6 and G10.5 production lines, the proportion of glass used for G8.5 production line is also getting smaller and smaller. But in Q4'21, only 36% of the glass used in the G8.5 production line, while the proportion of glass used in the G10.5 production line has grown to 19%.
