The difference between TFT LCD and AMOLED

Prev Update date: Apr 25,2023 Next

TFT LCD and AMOLED are two different types of display technologies used in modern electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets, and TVs. Here are the key differences between the two:

Technology: TFT LCD stands for Thin-Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Display, while AMOLED stands for Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode. The main difference between these two technologies is that TFT LCDs use a backlight to illuminate the display, while AMOLED displays emit their own light, making them more power-efficient.

Image Quality: AMOLED displays are known for their vibrant colors, deep blacks, and high contrast ratios, making them ideal for displaying photos and videos. On the other hand, TFT LCDs are better at displaying text and other graphics, as they have a higher pixel density and sharper edges.

Power Consumption: AMOLED displays consume less power than TFT LCDs, especially when displaying darker colors, as the pixels are completely turned off in those areas, resulting in significant power savings.

Durability: AMOLED displays are generally considered more durable than TFT LCDs, as they are less prone to damage from impact or pressure. However, they are more susceptible to burn-in, which is when a static image is displayed on the screen for too long, causing it to be permanently imprinted on the display.
