LGD decodes the core technology of automotive P-OLED - Tandem OLED

LG Display's automotive P-OLED combines a tandem OLED with a flexible plastic substrate. The P-OLED panel achieves a more ergonomic curved surface design due to its lightness and pliability. Compared to LCD products, P-OLED's in-car power consumption is reduced by 60% and weight is reduced by 80%. The core technology of P-OLED - tandem OLED - refers to a technology with a two-layer tandem structure consisting of two organic light-emitting layers. This technology can maintain the same thickness as the previous single-layer organic light-emitting method. Since there is an additional organic light emitting layer, a brighter image can be achieved.

In addition, tandem OLED technology can realize energy distribution and optimization on OLED components, thus extending the service life of OLED components. LG Display has also further improved the differentiated technical strength of tandem OLED. Starting this year, the second generation of tandem OLED has been mass-produced, which improves the efficiency of organic light-emitting elements. Compared with the first generation, the second generation of tandem OLED reduces power consumption by about 40%, greatly improves the brightness and lifetime of the screen, and offers breakthrough technical advantages. In addition, P-OLED reduces power consumption and minimizes the use of hazardous substances.

As for LG Display, Leadtek display has more to introduce. It unveiled the world's first automotive P-OLED in 2019. At this year's CES 2023, LG Display also introduced a series of automotive displays, including ATO (Advanced Thin OLED), transparent OLED, 18-inch sliding OLED, etc., and P-OLED. LG Display has been recognized by many authoritative certification bodies around the world for P-OLED's superior image quality, design freedom and environmental protection features.

According to LG Display, with the continuous development of display products in vehicles, the brightness, potential visibility, durability and longevity of the products have become key features. With the development of this trend, vehicle displays, which in the past were only used to convey driving information, are becoming more and more important. And with the advent of the electric vehicle and autonomous driving era, in-vehicle display products focus on the driver and passengers, displaying various information such as driving functions, the vehicle's environment and entertainment. Therefore, a wide and clear image on the screen has become especially important. The first-generation vehicle display, originally installed in the center console, is gradually being extended to the instrument panel and the co-pilot's display, and display products are also being used on the rear seats and rearview mirrors.

P-OLED has ranked first in the market for high-end automotive displays of 10 inches or larger for four consecutive years, thanks to its exclusive technical strength in realizing excellent image quality and design freedom, as well as keeping up with the trend of environmental protection.
